Dr David Norton

is a recently retired Professor from the University of Canterbury with over 40 years’ experience in New Zealand ecology and conservation across both public and private land. His work continues with farmers, the farming community and sector groups to promote biodiversity conservation and find ways to build this into farm management planning.

David gives numerous talks to catchment groups about biodiversity, and works with individual farmers helping them write integrated farm management plans that include environmental issues alongside more traditional farming concerns.

What to expect:

“An overview of what we mean by the term biodiversity and why biodiversity is something that farmers should be aware of and involved with. David will talk about how biodiversity can be incorporated into farm planning through the Beef+Lamb NZ farm plan biodiversity module, including how you can identify what native biodiversity you have on your farm. He will briefly discuss some of the common actions you might consider for protecting biodiversity and tools to help you monitor it.”
