New OCC Regional Manager
Media release:
Spring marks a time of refocus and renewed energy at Otago Catchment Community
This month, Craig Simpson stepped into the new Regional Manager role at Otago Catchment Community (OCC).
There are 26 Catchment Groups in Otago, and OCC support them with coordination, funding for projects and collaboration.
Craig has supported OCC in a governance role for the past three years, and with a background as a Catchment Coordinator with the NZ Landcare Trust and more recently a Project Coordinator for Otago South River Care and Pomahaka Water Care Group, he brings a wealth of experience to the role and a personal passion to protect the environment and maintain and improve water quality.
Hanna Stalker, Chairperson Otago Catchment Community, said “having worked with Craig in a governance role over the last few years, I know the knowledge and expertise he will bring to both catchment groups around Otago and the direction of the OCC overall. He will play a pivotal role in helping OCC continue to grow and strengthen into the future.”
Craig reflects that this is an exciting opportunity working with a small, but amazing team.
“Our vision is to support an Otago-wide network of Catchment Groups that are addressing environmental issues now and for generations to come. Working with those who can make a difference – our farmers and urban communities - and creating meaningful connections between the Catchment Groups, promoting sustainable land and water management, will make a significant difference to our environment”, said Craig.
“My focus will be providing OCC strategic direction for the future, meeting the Group’s needs, whilst keeping an eye on continuity, consistency and value-add,” said Craig.
