Opening of Omakau School new Tunnel House

Tuesday's grand opening of the Omakau School tunnel house was a success! The new tunnel house promises exciting learning opportunities for the students and reinforces the school's commitment to sustainability.

It will allow the school community the opportunity to grow food and native plants in a purpose-built facility. Children from Omakau school have been undertaking native planting days for the past 3 years on a local farm, and this facility will give them the opportunity to grow more plants for local planting projects, seeing the process right through from seed collection, preparation, sowing, pricking out, to planting out and about. The option to grow vegetables in the tunnel house is an added bonus!
