Out & About with Craig & Nicole…

Last week OCC Regional Manager Craig Simpson and OCC Central Catchment Coordinator Nicole Sutton visited the Wanaka area.

Their first stop was with Paul van Klink from Friends of Bullock Creek. They were delighted to see what Friends of Bullock Creek have done to help protect Bullock Creek from storm water run-off and invasive weeds. If you're in Wanaka take a stroll along the boardwalk through Bullock Creek Wetland to check out extensive native plantings and clear spring water.

Next up was a meet with Wanaka Catchment Group, followed by a drive with Randall Aspinall to learn more about diverse land use in the catchment and the work being done to improve water quality.

Their last meeting was with Cat Dillon and Louise Aubrey from WAI Wānaka. Here Craig and Nicole heard about some of WAI Wānaka’s water quality improvement work with individuals, community groups, farmers, catchment groups, councils, schools and businesses. Cat, Louise, and Paul van Klink all mentioned the Adopt a Drain initiative. Craig and Nicole were interested to see the steel native wildlife cut outs and LittaTraps being used to raise awareness about what goes in stormwater drains. Find out more at Wai Wanaka.

OCC supports Catchment Groups with coordination assistance, funding for projects, and collaboration opportunities. See our Funding Page for more information.
