Te Mana o Taiari, the Healthy Taieri Project and the ORC Integrated Catchment Management Team are co-hosting a hui at the Middlemarch Hall on the Tuesday 6th August 2024.
Te Mana o Taiari is a Department of Conservation funded Ngā Awa river restoration project that is working in partnership with Te Rūnaka o Ōtākou, Kāti Huirapa Rūnaka ki Puketeraki and Otago Regional Council to deliver gains on biodiversity values, resilience and the mana of the awa by working in collaboration with the community.
The Healthy Taieri project is an Upper Taieri Wai catchment group project funded by the MPI Integrated Farm Planning fund. The project is working to deliver tools and information that helps farmers with their farm planning while also achieving broader catchment goals – including through identifying opportunities for shared projects with collective benefits.
The Integrated Catchment Management Programme at ORC is developing Catchment Action Plans in partnership with mana whenua and community in broad landscapes across Otago. CAPs are whole of ecosystem plans from the mountains to the sea ‘ki uta ki tai’. A CAP for the Taieri will be initiated later in 2024, building on existing mahi and aligning with other catchment plans such as Te Mana o Taiari and the Healthy Taieri Project.
The purpose of the day is to bring members of the Taiari catchment community together to build on the last hui held at Ōtākou Marau in May 2023. There is a lot going on in the Taiari catchment, including significant government, community and private investment, which all aim to improve the environment.
This hui will:
• Identify and progress opportunities that take us towards a shared vision for the catchment
• Provide and share information about the activities that have been occurring in the catchment over the last 18 months
• Build relationships for future collaborations
